This poor low intensity literature, known as «ephemera», and comprising a multitude of documents printed out by innumerable machines – bank slips, shopping receipts, promotional flyers, customer loyalty cards, business cards, bus, train and metro tickets, etc. – is the source of Anne-James’ quests into sound, poetry and visual art. Else Olsen Storesund one of Europe´s leading experts on the interpretation of John Cages piano music is performing and teaching. Storesund manipulates the sound of the grand piano by placing objects between or on the strings, such as nuts, bolts and pieces of rubber (prepared piano). Listen to Else´s lecture, sign up your children to her workshop, or listen to her performance of Cages Preludes & Interludes, together with Cage´s reading of his Lectures of Nothing. Else Storesund is also performing with The Sound Poetry Ensemble, together with all the other festival musicians.
Sound of a Cage artist Cecilie Bjørgås Jordheim made us aware of this lovely project!
The book is a typographic response to the music of Philip Glass. The original patterns were created on a Brother Electric Typewriter, then photocopied and overlaid to form patterns responding to a particular piece of music. These were then taken, edited and selected to form a sequential narrative across the pages of the book. It is the first exploration into a larger project.
We are happy to announce the exhibition of limited-edition prints by Nina Elisabeth Børke (Werksemd), developed as identity for Sound of a Cage triennial.
Thursday 6th from 18:00-21:00 (Tou Scene)
Friday 7th from 14:00-22:00 (Tou Scene)
Saturday 8th from 10:00-16:00 (Tou Scene)
Nina Elisabeth Børke (b Norway 1977) is a an award winning graphic designer and illustrator, based in England and Norway, working under the studio name Werksemd. She studied Visual Communication at KHiB, with a MA focused on the interplay between technology and creativity within musical and visual developments in the 20th century, involving musique concrete, decontextualization and sampling across both fields. Her work ranges from the commercial to independent artwork, with a special affinity for music graphics. –When working with music, I like to try to identify and extract an essential principle inherent in the music itself and find ways to apply it as a methodology visually. I guess transcribing, translating or creating analogies are ways to describe it.
